Caption: pic on left is more trucks we lost at ambush site in Hue Tet '68. Pic on right is at Firebase Bastogne in the Ashau valley around March/April '68, left is a guy named 'Ski ( nickname ), center I believe his name is Taylor/truck mechanic and right I can't remember. Standing on top of bunker where we sleep at night. Just to left about 25/50 feet up hill was a battery of 105's that would fire a mission any time of day or night and the sand would fall in our faces from the muzzle blast. Also if we got hit and in danger of getting overrun we were told they would pop a colored flare and that was when the beehive rounds would be fired so have your head down. In trees at the edge of the clearing you could see the darts stuck in trees from other rounds that had been fired. We were told this base could be held during the good weather but could and had been overrun when air support wasn't available
